quite a bit of what was said in al gore’s an inconvenient truth (seen on sunday at klpac with free passes from ytl) has been trickling through the news in spurts here and there over the years.about the crack in the larsen b ice shelf.
the rise in co2 gas emissions and sea levels.
the hottest years in the last decade, most number of hurricanes, etc, etc.
but never perhaps, put together all at once.
yes it did feel a bit like an extended a geography/nature lesson.
but a very important lesson nevertheless.
go watch it.
i remember being in the southern most tip of hong kong late last year, when it was already supposed to be cool (but it so wasn’t) and visibility was so bad from the pollution from mainland china that at times you cannot even see the coast.
there will always be detractors to the 'global warming' theory, of course.
maybe there is no straightforward correlation between greenhouse gases and 'global warming'.
maybe it is also because the sun is getting hotter as some claim.
but does that mean we shouldn’t even try to do our part??

over here, there is a controversy with AlGore's documentary because in as much as he's a proponent of enviromentally friendly activities, he also owns a very very big house that uses up more gas/power than the average american home. So the cynics claim he is trying to be media friendly so he can run for election sometime in the future...
MsJ
It would be interesting to see Mother Nature's report to God on humanity's persistent and voluntary failure to take care of the environment. That would be a good post.
all i can think of is this piece of gem i saw somewhere..
save water - shower with your girlfriend
I will do my part to save the planet.
Sebagai menyambut cabaran Des, I will put up signs for communal showers.
msj - haha, sound just like malaysians.
and amidst all that, the message is completely lost and we hurtle towards oblivion.
there's rumours that he *owns* a company which will benefit from green tax or something, so there is vested interest.
but does that mean everything he says is wrong or should be ignored wholesale?
mal - probably along these lines:
ma nature to god: *you* take over, they are not listening to me no matter WHAT i do!!!
des - i think that was a campaign in australia in 2003 just as i was leaving
[v]landa - pls put up warning as this may end up with *more* water being used and baby boom at end of year.
speaking of detractors...some of them make a very convincing case, especially the cute ones like Bjorn Lomborg, who wrote "The Skeptical Environmentalist" (check it out at http://www.lomborg.com/)
Ms J - As a political force, Al Gore's finished. He should have announced his candidacy at the Oscars. It is now TOO late.
And it's little wonder that you hear so many people complain about him in Republican-infested Colorado...
Count me among the detractors.
It is after all, a THEORY on global warming.
The pro-global warming mob are turning into a bunch of McCarthy-ists.
